LOTTT: Revival Mode, Every Time I Die

I’ve had a permanent erection for Every Time I Die since last Wednesday when their Low Teens tour passed through my hometown of Derby and they played a fucking killer gig at The Venue. I’ve seen them about 7 times (Sheffield, Leeds, Manchester, Nottingham) and can sincerely declare that their gig at our weird bingo hall was the best I have ever heard them sound. The connection to the crowd was, as ever, faultlessly fervent – and the new music is as instantly recognisable and well-loved as the old. Ebolarama, Wanderlust… concluding with Moor. Fuck.

My friend Lyndsay and I have been fans since Gutter Phenomenon (and the band are actually one of the reasons we became friends) and we had the very acute pleasure of meeting Jordan, Andy, and Keith after the gig (all photos courtesy of Lyndsay).

Therefore today’s LOTTT is an Every Time I Die track; Revival Mode. I love this song because it lyrically reaches such grand levels of saturnine intensity whilst maintaining the classically depraved and sardonic Every Time I Die sound. Every song is chaotic and intelligent, aggressively and deeply, deeply poetic… Shakespeare with a chainsaw.

I’ve got debts piling high, I’ve got addictions, ex-wives
But I stay true, so I thank you for bearing witness while I waste my fucking life.
